In Volume Three, and the final book of this Series, we offer short biographies of several graphic artists who became specialists at illustrating song covers. Just as several composers like Irving Berlin, somewhat dominated the market for Tin Pan Alley tunes, there were just a handful of artists who made the covers to sell the songs. Many of the 100 covers in this collection were done by Barbelle, Starmer and the master, Pfeiffer. For students of design, it's fun to see the concepts they came up with when staring at a blank piece of paper after hearing a song. Pfeiffer was known for his beautiful, original Art Nouveau borders and Barbelle for his Art Deco designs. They all were known to blend the relatively new method of blending photo chromography with the illustration. 107 pages formatted for printing on office size paper.
